For who is a forehead lift a relief? People who are sitting in front of the television at night and can hardly look out of their eyes because of fatigue. Or people who have a worrisome facial expression. In the ideal circumstance, the lift has an effect on the grooves in the forehead, the frown wrinkles above the nose and the position of the eyebrows. You look younger, more relaxed and rested.

Cause?

It is partly congenital and partly ageing. A hanging eyelid in itself doesn’t have to give a sad, worrisome or angry impression; it mainly concerns the position of the eyebrows. Just think about it, when you look angry, you frown and your eyebrows are pulled down.

Is there a difference between men and women?

The position of the eyebrows in women is usually higher than in men. That gives the feminine look. Some women however have lower positioned eyebrows since childhood and therefore qualify for a forehead lift more rapidly. Masculine men, on the other hand, have low standing eyebrows. For that reason men will come with functional complaints earlier. If eyebrows are really positioned very low, you inadvertently will raise your eyebrows and as a result you will get an over-fatigued forehead muscle and muscular ache. This results in headache and fatigue.

A forehead lift is also an eyebrow lift

But, in the opposite case, an eyebrow lift doesn’t have to be a forehead lift

The surgery

Under general anesthesia five small incisions are made in the hair. While an introduced mini camera registers the cut activities on a screen, the skin of the forehead is detached from around the sockets of the eyes and the eyebrows are detached from the skull bone with a spatula. Then the skin is raised and temporarily attached to the skull bone with tiny screws. It sounds rather dramatic but it turns out better than expected. The raised skin will eventually grow together onto the skull bone of the forehead. At the temples a few subcutaneous stitches are put in, which can be felt for some time. The small incisions are eventually closed with little staples. This way no scars are visible. You have to count on a hospital stay of one or two nights.

After the surgery

A turban for your head, bruised eyes, nausea and a headache. For the pain and nausea you will receive medication. After about ten days the screws are removed. If you look for them the little cuts in the hair will be visible but they are not obvious. The stitches under the skin at the temples can remain sensitive for some time and parts of the skin of the forehead can feel ‘strange’ or ‘dead’. This feeling will slowly disappear. After two weeks you can go back to work.

Complications

It is possible that a nerve can be damaged or bruised, which can paralyze the forehead muscle which raises the eyebrow. Quite often this condition is only temporarily.
