Wrinkles cut or fill?

Wrinkles are caused by the contraction of the facial muscles, decrease of the elasticity of the skin, the loss of subcutaneous fatty tissue and by the influence of gravity.

It makes sense to deal with the causes of wrinkles. Facial grooves can be dealt with by a (mini)facelift, which places the skin back to its original position. Volume is added to the face with the injection of small amounts of fatty tissue. Wrinkles of the upper lip can be softened with a superficial laser treatment. Frown wrinkles disappear by injecting the underlying muscles with Botox.

Treatment with a filler is simpler and more inexpensive. Though there is sufficient know-how about the product that is used, it is hard to predict what the effect of the filler will be long term. In most cases connective tissue will grow around the injected filler. When the skin ages and becomes thinner and the amount of subcutaneous fatty tissue decreases, then the fillers might surface and cause visible lumps and bumps. I am reserved in using fillers.
